Did you know that most colleges and universities in Canada automatically consider entrance scholarships based on high school academic performance?

Currently, higher education institutions offers a variety of scholarships. Some institutions offer multiple levels of scholarships, while others require applicants to submit an application to be considered. Canadian universities invest in scholarships and other forms of financial support not only for local students but also for international undergraduates to recognize the academic achievements of outstanding students from around the world.
There are generally two main types of scholarships, which will be discussed in detail below.
Bursary (Application Required)
A bursary is awarded to Canadian citizens or permanent residents based on financial need rather than academic achievement. They amount awarded as a bursary does not need to be repaid and typically ranges from $1,000 to $4,000.
However, it requires income and tax information from the previous year for the student's parents, guardians, or spouse. Be sure to check each university's application method and deadlines to ensure timely submission.
Scholarship
While scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, or personal achievements, they are typically given based on financial need. Similar to bursaries, scholarships do not need to be repaid.
Types of Scholarships (Application my required or not)
Dean's/President's Entrance Scholarships
This scholarship is automatically awarded to students who show excellent academic performance when they enter a full-time first-year degree program in September.
These scholarships are awarded to students who enter college or university for the first time, without needing to apply separately.
By Faculty/Program Scholarships
Scholarships given to students who meet the eligibility criteria set by each faculty or program. These are typically awarded to outstanding students without the need for an application.
Additional Scholarships
The following scholarships require separate applications. In addition, there may be other scholarships for which you qualify, so be sure to search for university scholarship databases to check for any available entrance scholarships. The types of scholarships and eligibility requirements may vary by university.
International Scholarships: Application required or not (depending on the program)
Black Students: Application required
Indigenous Students: Application required
All other Entrance Scholarship: Application required or not (depending on the type of scholarship)
